Education Programs are conducted in churches, community centers,
senior retirement facilities and civic organization for women 35 years and older.
Lay health advisors (volunteers) teach breast self-exam, benefits of early detection,
advise of screening guidelines and provide information on free or low cost screening.

Screening
Through
the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program (BCC) women are provided
with free clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap Tests and diagnostic services.
Medicaid and Medicare eligible recipients are referred to all area providers. The
project works with local hospitals with cancer centers to assist women without insurance.
Mobile mammography days are sponsored quarterly.

Diagnosis & Treatment
Through
the CBCCEDP women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are enrolled in the BCC Medicaid
program. Women who are not eligible for the program are referred to CancerCare,
Inc. and other support agencies for financial support.

Support Services
The
Witness Project established the first breast cancer support group for African American
women in 1998 in Stratford, Connecticut. The project also works closely with CancerCare
who provides professional counseling services in Norwalk, Bridgeport, Fairfield
and Stratford.
